Barry Goldwater Obituary

Barry Goldwater, a former senator from Arizona who ran for president in 1964, died today at the age of 89. NPR's Neal Conan has an overview of his life and political career. He was well-known as a staunch conservative...and often credited with being the guiding force behind the reshaping of the Republican Party. Goldwater is the man who originated the line "extremism in the defense of liberty is no vice," during the 1964 Republican National Convention.
