Ireland's Guggenheim Grotto creates an electronics-infused brand of folk music, blending programmed beats and acoustic instruments with point-on harmonies and honest, observational lyrics. Band members Kevin May (piano, lead vocals) and Mick Lynch (acoustic guitar, ukulele, stomp-board and vocals) strip away the electronic elements in this Mountain Stage performance, spotlighting their crisp, brotherly-like harmony and memorable melodies. The song "Her Beautiful Ideas" contains the ear-worm line "Let's get naked and get under the sheets," while "Just Not Just" features a playful, non-word breakdown mid-song.

Guggenheim Grotto played Mountain Stage in 2006 after releasing their debut album, ...Waltzing Alone, which May referred to as "One of the most nerve-wrecking things I've ever done. Now that I've got it under my belt, this is the second most nerve-wrecking thing," he said. The band's latest release, Happy the Man, maintains distinguishable acoustic elements while further incorporating electronic programming.

This feature originally ran Apr. 27, 2009.
