Unique in sound and technique, School of Seven Bells has an electronic, dreamy sound that feels both abstract and carefully crafted. The group takes an unconventional approach to its music, composing ethereal melodies only after the lyrics are written.

The trio was formed when Benjamin Curtis of Secret Machines and twins Alejandra and Claudia Deheza of On!Air!Library! opened for Interpol. The three moved in together and built a home studio, and nine months later released their first EP, Face to Face on High Places.

The group's full-length debut, Alpinisims, exudes tension, and is almost dizzying in its instrumentation. The disc combines hints of Afrobeat and electronica with woozy harmonies that take the music to exhilarating heights, as its album's title suggests. In a session with David Dye, Curtis talks about the inspiration for School of Seven Bells' sound and describes what it's like to create music without a rhythm section.
