Alison Stewart
Host
Many Generation Xers know Alison Stewart from her days on MTV as a pioneer of the network's critically acclaimed and influential "Choose or Lose" coverage of the 1992 and 1996 Presidential elections. Today, Stewart is an accomplished, award-winning broadcast journalist with credentials from CBS News, ABC News, and most recently NBC News. In 2007, she joined NPR as co-host of the morning news show The Bryant Park Project, which concluded broadcasting in July 2008.
In 2003, Stewart joined NBC News, where she most recently hosted the daily news program "The Most" on MSNBC, which looked at the day's most important news on-air and online. She also served as newsreader/substitute anchor for NBC's "Weekend Today" and contributor to "Today." At MSNBC she anchored coverage of such breaking news events as Hurricane Katrina, the Hezbollah/Israel conflict and the 2006 Olympics in Torino, Italy.
Other assignments for the network included anchoring breaking national and international news, contributing to well-known programs, and substitute hosting other news programs. At CBS News, she reported for "CBS News Sunday Morning" and "48 Hours." She subsequently joined ABC News as anchor of its daily early morning news program, "World News Now," and was a contributor to "20/20 Downtown" and "Good Morning America." She was part of the network's team that won an Emmy for its coverage of the September 11th terrorist attacks.
At MTV as a producer and political reporter for the Peabody Award-winning MTV "Choose or Lose" campaign, Stewart chased young voters to give them a voice in the country's election process and helped create a national dialogue for political awareness and participation in what turned out to be the largest turnout among young voters since 1972. In addition to her political reporting duties, Stewart anchored several MTV News programs including "MTV News: Unfiltered" and "Megadose", the channel's alternative health program.
Stewart's new role at NPR is a radio homecoming for her. While a student at Brown University, she was music director for WBRU Radio, the nation's largest commercial college radio station, and anchored news for music station WHTZ Radio New York. Stewart and her husband live in New York City.
