NPR's Larry Abramson reports that the holiday shopping season has, so far, not lived up to retailers' hopes. With one week to go in the season, spending increases have at least kept up with inflation, but some stores wanted to see even bigger profits. The Christmas season is traditionally the most important time of year for retailers.
