Monica Brady reports from Manaus, Brazil that the Brazilian government says it wants to fight the destruction of the Amazon rainforest by emphasizing "sustainable development" projects. Officials say they now understand that this approach—exploiting resources without destroying them—is the best way to protect the forest, which is under assault from aggressive logging and farming. But environmentalists charge that the government has no idea how to pursue sustainable development, nor has it committed the resources necessary to try.
