Astronaut To Mir

NPR's Chris Joyce reports on NASA's announcement this morning that an American astronaut will replace Michael Foale, the American currently ending a fourth-month stay on the troubled Russian space station, MIR. Astronaut David Wolf will replace Foale; the shuttle bringing him to the Mir is scheduled for launch this evening. The decision came after a last-minute flurry of safety reviews. NASA officials are confident the MIR is safe, but critics on Capitol Hill do not share their confidence.
