What's In A Name?

Audio for this story from All Things Considered is not available.

Commentator Andrew Lam tells how all his family and friends gave up their Vietnamese names when they came to this country. He says those names lose their beauty in this country - they sound like a grunt or a cough. He says to assimilate one really does need a new name - but he hopes the beauty of the Vietnamese names - with beautiful meanings - remains with him always.
