After its third full-length album We All Belong landed the band spots opening for My Morning Jacket, Philadelphia's Dr. Dog returned with its most adventurous record in Fate. A melding of several different eras of popular music, the Philadelphia rock band's sound is a distinctly 21st-century version of psychedelic pop. Dueling guitars and keyboard lines, laced over fuzzy bass grooves, give the group its expansive sound, which also features plenty of harmony singing.

Here, principal songwriters Scott McMicken (piano, guitar) and Toby Leaman (bass) are joined by Frank McElroy on guitar, Zach Miller on keyboards and Juston Stens on drums.

This feature originally ran May 13, 2009.
