NPR's Michael Goldfarb reports that on his way to peace talks in the United States, Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat conferred with the leading foreign ministers of the European Union seeking to reassert their region's influence in the Middle East, despite the U.S. initiative to hold new peace talks in Washington.
