June 2, 2009 - Born and raised in Arkansas and now based in Nashville, Shawn Camp came to Mountain Stage in 2006 for a performance revisited here. Camp is a regular at the famed Station Inn, where he made his live record. In his more than 20 years in Nashville, Camp has written hit songs for country superstars Kenny Chesney, George Strait, Randy Travis and Garth Brooks, as well as bluegrass heavyweights like Ricky Skaggs and Del McCoury. His latest CD, titled Fireball, was released in 2006.
"Sis Draper," a tale about a female fiddler from Arkansas who can upstage all the boys, was written with Texas songwriting legend Guy Clark. Del McCoury has recorded two of the songs included here, "Travelin' Teardrop Blues," co-written with Herb McCullough, and "My Love Will Not Change," a song penned by Camp and Billy Burnette. "The Grandpa That I Know" is a heartbreaking song by Camp and Tim Mensy about a boy who doesn't recognize his grandfather at his funeral. Joining Camp is bassist Dave Roe.
