Illegal Entry

Carrie Kahn of member station KPBS visits a Mexican town that recently buried two men who died trying to cross illegally into the United States. Earlier this month, eight people died in the mountains as they tried to cross illegally from Mexico into California. The rate of deaths on the border has increased in the past five years, and has given rise to measures like Operation Gatekeeper — a border patrol crackdown aimed at sealing off well-traveled, flat land crossing points between the coast and the rugged mountains and desert to the east.
