June 4, 2009 - Originally from Dallas, Texas, Jon Randall grew up playing bluegrass music with his father. The younger Randall and his band perform songs from his album Walking Among the Living in this 2006 Mountain Stage performance.

Randall came up in the music business as a sideman, visiting Mountain Stage alongside Emmylou Harris and Sam Bush. He can be heard on Harris' Grammy-winning 1992 live album At the Ryman. All the while, he tried to release records of his own, though they more often than not fell into obscurity due to an assortment of failing record labels.

"Whiskey Lullaby," a song Randall wrote with Bill Anderson, became a hit song when it was recorded by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss — much to the surprise of Randall, who said he thought it was "the worst song I've ever heard." "North Carolina Moon" was written with his father, Ron Stewart.
