Welfare Payments

NPR's Ina Jaffe reports that the Supreme Court has overturned a California law that limited the size of welfare payments new residents could receive, to the lower amounts paid by states where they used to live. California and at least 14 other states passed such laws, but lower courts already had blocked most of them. The Supreme Court ruled that such laws violate the Constitutional right to travel and deny new state residents equal protection under the law.
