The New Jersey pop-rock band Fountains of Wayne specializes in packing catchy hooks and clever lyrics into three-minute pop songs. Though the band has been making records since 1996, it was its 2003 hit "Stacy's Mom" — and that song's video, starring Rachel Hunter — which brought Fountains of Wayne fame and two Grammy nominations. Its latest, 2007's Traffic & Weather, features more Kinks-inspired pop. Co-founders Adam Schlesinger and Chris Collingwood perform with guitarist Jody Porter and drummer Brian Young, who have remained in the lineup since the band's self-titled debut.

In his spare time, Schlesinger co-wrote the songs behind Stephen Colbert's 2008 Christmas special with Daily Show executive producer David Javerbaum, and recently started an all-star pop band, Tinted Windows, with Taylor Hanson (Hanson), Bun E. Carlos (Cheap Trick) and James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins).

Fountains of Wayne is embarking on a summer tour of acoustic dates, which should sound similar to this Mountain Stage set recorded this past March in Morgantown, W.V.

This feature originally ran Jun. 8, 2009.
