Elizabeth Dole
NPR's political correspondent Elizabeth Arnold reports on the challenges potential Republican presidential candidate Elizabeth Dole faces as she tries to prove her viability to Republican primary voters. The two-time Cabinet secretary and former president of the American Red Cross is no newcomer to the demands of public service and the scrutiny of public life. But running for elected office requires a natural instinct to make news, and quick reflexes to deal with the unpredictable, and Dole has successfully endured four campaigns with a well-rehearsed pitch and by keeping a low profile.
