Linda speaks with Robert Goldstein, Oakland University Political Science Professor, and author of several books on the flag desecration controversy, including: "Burning the Flag: the Great 1989-1990 American Flag Desecration Controversy" and "Desecrating the American Flag: Key Documents of the Controversy from the Civil War to 1995." Speaking with us from member station WUOM in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Professor Goldstein talks about the history of the American Flag, and how Americans regard the flag as a symbol compares to other countries. He says there were few rules about the flag until after the Civil War. Goldstein's publishers are, in order of above appearance, Kent State University Press, 1996, and Syracuse University Press, 1996.
