NPR's Phillip Martin reports on Unity 99, a meeting of minority journalists convening this week in Seattle. The city recently passed a measure eliminating affirmative action in government hiring and higher education. That sparked a discussion during the planning stages of the conference about whether to hold the meeting there or in some other city. Organizers voted to go ahead and stay in Seattle, but it opened the door to some frank discussions.
