Republican Tax Bill

NPR's Brian Naylor reports on House passage of the Republican bill, which would reduce taxes by nearly 800 billion dollars over ten years. Yesterday's 223-to-208 vote was almost entirely along party lines. The Senate takes up a similar tax measure next week. President Clinton has repeatedly said he will veto the Republican plan, because, he says, the tax cuts are too large and it fails to adequately protect Medicare and Social Security.
