The value of gold is at a twenty-year low and some analysts say the commodity is at a turning point. Many countries around the world are selling gold reserves, resulting in hundreds of mines around the world closing or downsizing. Here in the U.S., gold mining towns in northern Nevada are experiencing major layoffs and downsizing. Daniel speaks to economic historian Michael Bordo of Rutgers University about this phenomenon. He also speaks with reporter Laurie Baumann, of The Humboldt Sun in Winnemucca, Nevada, about the impact the drop in gold prices is having on Winnemucca.
