Tax Cut Debate

(Update) NPR's Peter Kenyon reports on the first day of Senate debate on the Republican proposal for a 792 Billion dollar, ten-year tax cut. Republicans easily defeated an alternative Democratic plan, which would have reduced taxes by less than half that amount—290 billion dollars over 10 years. Democrats said the numbers Republicans are using to project future budget surpluses are ridiculously over optimistic.
