STEVE INSKEEP, host:

Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep.

A Nebraska man paid his debt to society, then asked society to pay a debt to him. He spent two days in jail. When he got out, the jailers could not find the Husker sweat pants that he'd been wearing when arrested, so he filed a claim demanding $12. The county offered to pay $10. You'd think they would compromise at $11, but instead the matter went to the Lancaster County board, which voted to award the man the full $12.
