Timor Violence

NPR's Eric Weiner reports from East Timor that three people died and many more were injured today in violent clashes between those favoring and opposing independence for the former Portuguese colony. The clashes came just four-days before a UN-sponsored referendum was due to be held to determine whether the population of the territory occupied by Indonesia since 1975 wanted independence or autonomy within Indonesia.
