East Timor

(Update) NPR's Eric Weiner reports on the latest development in East Timor. Today, Indonesia rejected international outcry for early deployment of foreign peacekeepers in East Timor. Pro-Jakarta militias launched a burning, looting and killing spree. Last week East Timorese voted overwhelmingly for independence after 23 years of Indonesian rule. Hundreds of Timorese have been killed while more than 40,000 people have fled to West Timor.
