Charlotte Schools

Scott Jagow of member station WFAE reports that a federal district judge in Charlotte, North Carolina today lifted a 30-year old school desegregation busing order. Seven white parents sued the Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools back in 1997 claiming that the system was integrated and busing was no longer necessary to achieve racial balance. Thirty years ago, the Supreme Court upheld school busing to achieve racial desegregation in Charlotte setting a national precedent.
