East Timor

NPR's Vicky O'Hara reports from Darwin on the latest information on the deployment of peacekeeping forces in East Timor. As the multinational forces continue to arrive in East Timor, military operations seem to overshadow humanitarian efforts. Hundreds of thousands of East Timorese have been displaced by the violence since they voted overwhelmingly for independence in last month's referendum.
