Fanfarlo was formed in 2006, and released its first album earlier this year.
Led by Swedish songwriter Simon Balthazar, Fanfarlo was formed in 2006, and soon began touring and steadily releasing new music. In 2008, the group headed to the studio to record their first full-length album. The result, Reservoir, was released earlier this year.
The bands style of indie pop feels familiar and yet very new. In addition to the normal lineup of drums, bass and guitars, the group employs an array of instruments ranging from keyboards and mandolin to horns.
Songs such as the lead track, Im a Pilot, are filled with the same upbeat whimsy that made Fanfarlo an underground hit. The bands floating sound is captured by sweeping keyboards and vocals, but the group still manages to keep its feet on the ground. The result is an ambitious yet emotionally engaging sound.
