Little Rock Nine

Today at the White House members of the "Little Rock Nine" were honored with the Congressional Gold Medal — the nation's highest civilian honor. The Little Rock Nine refers to the nine black teenagers who were escorted under the protection of federal troops into Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. Their unwillingness to be deterred in the fall of 1957 led to the integration of Central High.
