NPR's Patricia Neighmond reports on a new California law regulating the number of registered nurses on duty in hospitals, and what it may really mean for patients. California is the first state in the nation to pass such legislation, and some hospitals — and nurses — worry that while the new regulation may turn into a bureaucratic nightmare that could actually jeopardize patient care.
