Baby Bell Long Distance

NPR's Jack Speer reports the FCC has given the green light for Bell Atlantic to offer long distance service in New York. The move that would make Bell Atlantic the first Baby Bell to enter the long distance market. Regulators say the move makes good on the promise of the 1996 Telecommunications Act, which pledged to bring the benefits of competition to consumers. Lawsuits from Bell Atlantic's long-distance rivals are likely to follow, however.
