Russia Chechnya Command

NPR's Michele Kelemen reports from Moscow that a Russian general killed in action in Chechnya was buried today. Army general Mikhail Malofeyev was reportedly shot while urging interior ministry troops to fight on in the face of stiff opposition from Chechen rebels. The general's death highlighted a major problem facing Russian policy-makers: lack of coordination among between army and interior ministry troops. Each branch blames the other for fatal blunders in the Russian campaign to reassert control over the breakaway republic.
