Sizzling Economy

NPR's Jack Speer reports the economy ended 1999 with a strong performance. The Commerce Department says the nation's GDP, the gross domestic product, grew at a strong-than-expected 5-point-8-percent annual rate in the final three months of 1999. A separate report on employment costs showed signs that inflation may be picking up.
