Vermeer-Inspired Fiction

NPR Special Correspondent Susan Stamberg reports on several new novels inspired by the work of 17th century Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. Katherine Weber's thriller The Music Lesson focuses on a fictional Vermeer which is stolen by the IRA. Tracey Chevalier tries to answer the questions behind an existing Vermeer, Girl with a Pearl Earring. And Susan Vreeland's novel, Girl in Hyacinth Blue, uses a painting as the connecting link between its sucsession of owners and its creator.
