Civil War Battle Flag Dispute

Lynette Nyman of Minnesota Public Radio reports on the continuing dispute between Virginia and Minnesota over a civil war battle flag. In 1863, at the Battle of Gettysburg, a Minnesota private captured the flag of the Army of Northern Virginia. The flag was turned over to the U.S. War Department, and later loaned to Minnesota for display. Despite a 1905 Congressional resolution to return captured war artifacts, the flag has stayed in Minnesota. Virginia now wants it back.
