Florida Tobacco Trial

NPR's Debbie Elliott reports from Miami that testimony will begin tomorrow in the punitive damages phase of a landmark class action lawsuit against the tobacco industry. In opening statements this week, lawyers for the plaintiffs urged jurors to punish the cigarette companies for the harm their products have inflicted on hundreds of thousands of Florida smokers. But lawyers for the tobacco companies countered that the industry has changed its ways and should not be punished for past misconduct.
