Thabo Mbeki

NPR's Renee Montagne talks to South Africa's President Thabo Mbeki, who's on an official visit to the United States this week. President Mbeki talks about some of the issues he's been discussing with US leaders, including President Clinton and Vice President Gore and Republican Presidential candidate George W. Bush. Those issues include trade, economic development, food shortages, AIDS, and regional conflicts. Mr. Mbeki succeeded Nelson Mandela as President of South Africa in June of last year.
