Before he became a movie critic, NPR's Bob Mondello did advertising for a large movie chain. He remembers the gimmicks he invented to get people to patronize the chain's struggling drive-ins: programming dusk-to-dawn "Horror-Thons," putting the concession crew in costumes, and offering plenty of cheesy giveaways.
