NPR's Michael Sullivan reports from New Delhi, that India's ancient tradition of requiring the payment of bridal dowry continues, despite laws which forbid it. Husbands demanding payment go so far as to torture or even kill their brides. Women's rights advocates in India say that failure to enforce the anti-dowry laws threatens whatever gains have been made toward gender equality.
