In the first installment of a two part series on charges of abuse at South Dakota's juvenile detention facilities, NPR's Madeleine Brand reports on the death of Gina Score. The 14-year old girl died while on a forced run at a boot camp for female offenders. Critics say the military-style atmosphere of the boot camp encouraged guards to be excessively harsh with the kids. But supporters of the camps say there's nothing wrong with the philosophy behind them. And blame the death on guards who did not follow official policy.
