Southerly is Krist Krueger, a Portland native who creates heavily orchestrated indie pop that takes cues from the Arcade Fire and the Polyphonic Spree. Krueger has been called "a one man musical army," but on his latest effort, he's expanded to a team of seven.

Always a DIY stickler, Krueger also serves as recording engineer, record label manager, and even booking agent. He remains hands-on in all aspects of his music.

The band was recently included on a Kill Rock Stars compilation disc featuring Laura Veirs, Sufjan Stevens, and The Decemberists' Colin Meloy. Southerly's second album, Storyteller & The Gossip Columnist is out on Portland's Greyday Records.
