A living legend of Chicago blues, Buddy Guy displays intensely vivacious energy in this, his third appearance on Mountain Stage. A Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, five-time Grammy winner and winner of 23 Blues Music Awards (formerly W.C. Handy Awards), Guy unleashes the dynamic guitar theatrics and soaring vocal ability that have made him the face of the blues for countless fans, young and old.

Guy's latest CD of new material, 2008's Skin Deep, features guest spots from Eric Clapton and Derek Trucks, while the career retrospective The Definitive Buddy Guy came out earlier this year. Guy touches on virtually every style of blues in this extended Mountain Stage performance, paying tribute to predecessors Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, O.V. Wright, Albert King, Bill Withers and Jimi Hendrix. His band includes Ric Hall on rhythm guitar, Marty Sammon on keyboards, Orlando Wright on bass and Tim Austin on drums.

This feature originally ran July 29, 2009.
