New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced Tuesday that he is leaving the GOP after six years.

The move is fueling speculation that Bloomberg is preparing himself for a possible presidential run as an independent, though Bloomberg says it only means that he wants to run the nation's largest city as a non-partisan.
