Rick Ankiels Woe

Scott Simon speaks with Jim Brosnan, writer and former major league pitcher about the difficulties faced by Rick Ankiel. A pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals last year, Mr. Ankiel has been sent down to the minor leagues after losing control of some of his pitches. He's thrown fast balls over the head of his catcher, all the way to the backstop on a fly. Mr. Brosnan talks about the value of muscle memory in pitching and the disadvantage of thinking too much.
