Barbara Ehrenreich
Listen
John talks with author Barbara Ehrenreich about her new book, Nickel and Dimed: On (Not) Getting by in America. Moving from Florida to Maine to Minnesota, Ehrenreich took the cheapest lodgings she could find and worked as a waitress, a hotel maid, a cleaning woman, a nursing home aide, and a Wal-Mart sales clerk to explore how feasible the welfare to work programs could be. She quickly discovered that no job is really unskilled, and that even a Ph.D couldn't figure out how to make ends meet.
