U.S. Budget Deficit, Debt Compared With GDP

The government debt held by the public will climb to 66 percent of gross domestic product by 2019, according to the latest projections from the Congressional Budget Office. The federal government posted a $1.4 trillion budget deficit in the fiscal year that ended in September — nearly 10 percent of GDP.
