'Hooked'

text sizeAAA
June 18, 2001

Host Robert Siegel talks to Lonnie Shavelson about his new book Hooked. Hooked follows five drug addicts through their struggle for treatment. From their experiences, Shavelson witnesses the shortcomings of America's drug treatment system. According to Shavelson, the system has come a long way, realizing that drug addiction is an illness. But it can't shake the notion that punishment and zero tolerance is the cure. (7:45) Shavelson's book is published by New Press: 6/1/01. He joins us via KPFA in Berkeley CA or our San Francisco Bureau.
