Favorite Books Series

As part of her June series on summer reading, NPR Special Correspondent Susan Stamberg talks to author Paule Marshall about one of her favorite books - the 1953 novel Maud Martha by Gwendolyn Brooks. It chronicles the life of a young black girl growing up on Chicago's South Side in the 30's and 40's. (7:19) Check the summer reading series.
