National Defense Strategy

It's time for the United States to adopt a new strategy for its national defense, says Pentagon boss Donald Rumsfeld. The Bush administration's secretary of defense told a congressional committee today that the aftermath of the Cold War is giving way to new challenges that require preparation now for conflicts well in the future. NPR's Tom Gjelten reports.
