Pope and President

NPR's Sylvia Poggioli reports on today's meeting between Pope John Paul II and President Bush at the papal summer resident in Castelgandolfo. John Paul told the president America has a moral responsibility to reject actions that devalue human life. The pontiff laid out the Church's opposition to abortion, the death penalty and stem cell research — an issue with which the president is now grappling.
