Republican Moderates

NPR's political correspondent Mara Liasson reports on the influence of moderate Republicans in Congress. Despite a GOP majority in the House, President Bush has not been able to count on full support for his bills. Much of that uncertainty is being generated by the members of the Tuesday Group — Republican moderates who are refusing to toe the party's more conservative line. And with Jim Jeffords' shake-up, the Bush administration is being forced to change the way it deals them.
